The narrative of adoption has been dominated by researchers and adoptive parents, with the conversation lacking the voices of adoptees. I intend to tell adoptees stories from an adoptee's perspective. As an adoptee myself, I see a need within my community and wanted to create a platform to reclaim our voices and share in our experiences.
Along with Our Stories , I wanted to provide some historical context for international adoptions originating from South Korea. Being personally adopted from South Korea, I was interested in where South Korean children were adopted to.
I've been learning about data visualizations, and website creation and design along with digital advocacy in two of my classes this semester and within this environment, I felt it was the perfect time to start this project. The colorful background behind Rebirth, is a climate stripe map showing the adoptees that were internationally adopted from the top 14 countries since 1953. This data can be found in the history section, in the second chart. Starting on the left is the United States, then France, and lastly on the right hand side is the United Kingdom.
Lastly, connect acts as place to conenct with other adoptees potentially interested in sharing their story as well.
